Report of NSS Special Camp (2010-2011)
Pyramid Valley
Bandemarasandra Village, Harohalli Hobali, Kanakapura Taluk, Ramanagara District.
(18-01-2011 to 24-01-2011)
The special NSS camp was organised by The NSS unit of National Degree college, Basavanagudi. The Place that was selected for the camp was Pyramid Valley International and since the rules clearly state the attachment of a village for the NSS camp,a near by village named Bandemarasandra was selected for shramadhana.
The First day of the camp was at the Pyramid valley it took us about 1:00 pm to reach that place. Later at 3:30 pm after lunch we had the inagural function, which was presided over by Dr.M.Leelavathi, Principal, NDC, Basavanagudi and the Chief Guest for the function was Prof. N.V. Narasimaiyah, former Prof. of History,APS colleg and Member of Backward class Commission of Karnataka, who inagurated the function and while speaking to the students he spoke of the importance of such camps, he stressed upon how such camps motivate students to develop the feeling of national integrity in them and help them build themselves.
Next day,on 19-01-2011, the day started by the hosting of NSS flag by the chief guest, Prof. P.Sundaramma, Dept of Mathematics, NDC, Basavanagudi, then all the students went to the pyramid and were thought how to meditate. After meditation all the volunteers were divided into 4 teams which took different tasks such as hosting and bringing down of the flag, conducting lecture programmes, conducting cultural programmes and maintainng the implements used for shramadhana.
There was clear time table laid out that after the breakfast from 9:30 to 12:30 would be for shramadana and after lunch at 3:30 a lecture would be conducted. According to the timetable lectures took place two consecutive days, wherein on 19th Mr.B.G.Rudrappa, Ex-chairman, KEB, spoke effectively about harnessing energy and its future. The next day it was by Prof.K.N.Nagaraj, Prof.Madhusudhana, and Dr.H.S.Madhavarao , senior professors of Kannada, MA, NDC, Basavanagudi. Who gave a talk about how the society was depleting day by day and how we as individuals must save it.
As the laid out programme we had every evening the of the NSS flag would be brought down by the chief guest sharply at 6:00 pm. Then every night after dinner, the time from 9pm to 10pm was meant for cultural programmes which was enjoyed by all the volunteers, Professors and also the staff of Pyramid Valley also actively participated in it with full energy.
The shramadana that took place in the pyramid valley were the works such as cleaning the whole campus, planting sapplings,  making the whole area a "Plastic Free Zone", cleaning the pyramid and helping the people in making food arrangements.
On 21-1-2011 trecking was planned where in a hillock nearby was selected, which made the treck the of well over 15-20 Km, though tiresome it was worth doing, As the students got an exposure of it and also learnt about so many medically important herbs and plants that were bountifully available there.
NSS usually allocates only one trecking in a camp of a week but we were fortunate that we trecked for two more days as we were supposed to climb the hills to go to the selected village for shramadana.
Bandemarasandra is a small village of 150 odd houses. Our NSS volunteers cleaned the water of a pond, which was in a deporable state, they also restructured the boundary of the pond, cleaned the streets, the school and planted plants near it . They also put up a fence around those saplings for their secure growth. But the most satisfying act done to the village people was the arrangement of a free medical camp wherein top notch doctors of bangalore had come and treated almost 100 patients. This free help checkup camp was mainly organised by a ex-student of National college named Dr.Damodar rao and along with him Dr.Kiran(Orthopedics), Dr.Jamuna(Gynaecologist), Dr.Venkatesh(Optholmologist), Dr.Girish(Physiotherapist) and some assistant docters were present and all the effort of these people was responsible for the success of the camp. The bonus to this camp came in the form of an attachment of "Pulse Polio Abhiyan" to this free camp by the local hospital. So, the villagers were facilited with an array of facilities under one roof.
For the entertainment of villagers a cultural programme of environmental awarness in the form of splendid vernacular songs was given by "Bhomi tayiya makkalu"-Samvada Society, Bangalore, a socially responsible and caring organization.
On the 23rd, the closing ritual of NSS took place at night 11:00 pm where in "Shibira Jyothi" was conducted.wherein all the volunteers gathered and sung a departure song, which was quite emotional to one and all.
On the 24-1-2011 the Valedictory cermony took place at the Pyramid valley which was conducted by Dr. C.B.Annapoornamma, camp-officer and NSS Programme Officer NDC, Basavanagudi. It was presided over by Dr.M.Leelavati, Principal, NDC, Basavanagudi. The Chief guest for the function was Dr.Sudha Kodur, Pshyciatrist(USA) who coincidently happens to be the sister of the founder of Pyramid valley, Brahmarishi Patriji.A large number of the staff of Pyramid valley and few senior Proffessors of National Degree College, Basavanagudiwere present there.  All the people wished us good fortune and prayed that the unity and brotherhood we had developed and showed them would remain with us for ever. Then at 4:00pm after the ceremony and lunch we all bid farewell to the people of Pyramid valley and promised ourselves that we will follow the discipline, brotherhood and equality which we had learnt there, and carry it to our lives in our homes also.
